1. LA ❤️
What’s happening in LA has been weighing on my mind, and like many of you, I’m looking for ways to help from afar. Our friends at the Less Awkward podcast have been sharing excellent resources on their Instagram stories, and in honor of Restoring Our Girls, I want to highlight their suggestion of the Aladena Girls Fire Recovery. This fundraiser helps girls affected by the devastating Eaton Canyon Fire, and their goal is to bring some normalcy back by collecting clothes, personal items, and beauty and hair care products—essentials to keep going through tough times.
Zibby’s Bookstore in Santa Monica suggest several resources in their Instagram stories and bio, including the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, which provides food assistance across LA County and is currently offering relief for those affected by the fires.
On Glennon’s podcast this week, guest Jessica Yellen recommended donating to the LAFD Wildfire Emergency Funding Alert, an initiative that supplies equipment and funds programs to support the firefighters who are battling these fires.
2. Need the Zen Parenting Conference?
If you need something to keep you going, ZenCon25 on Jan 24+25 might offer some much-needed inspiration. It's always been one of our favorite weekends of the year, and this is our final year. That’s why if you want to come, Todd and I will figure out a way to make it happen. Can you only come for one day? Use the coupon code oneday. Is it not doable financially? Reply to this email or contact Todd at todd@zenparentingradio.com because we have scholarships available. Are you a teacher or therapist? We have special coupon codes for you. Just respond or email, and we’ll make it happen! I’m telling you, if you're feeling overwhelmed or unsure about what comes next, this event will reset your heart and mind.
3. Restoring Our Girls Book Clubs & Book Signings
Thank you to everyone who is reading and responding to Restoring Our Girls! I love your emails and posts, and I really appreciate your questions. If you choose Restoring Our Girls for your book club with friends or your organization, please contact me for a possible Zoom Q&A. I enjoy jumping in and hearing what made you think or what you discussed with your daughters.
Dr. John Duffy and I will be at Barbara's Bookstore in Yorktown Center on February 22nd, talking about Restoring Our Girls & Rescuing Our Sons. I will also be at Zibby’s Bookstore in Santa Monica most likely in February, but due to the fires, the date is still being finalized—I’ll keep you posted!
4. Here’s what I've been reading, watching, and listening to lately when I need to tune out the world:
Lots of football, both college and NFL
The Rewatchables Podcast (my all-time fave, I continually relisten to episodes)
All Fours by Miranda July
The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz
Interstellar – I think I have to watch it again to fully grasp…
The Thing - The influence on Stranger Things, True Detective: Night Country, and Quentin Tarantino’s early movies is clear.
Wicked Soundtrack (duh)
Old episodes of 30 Rock & Sex and the City - Liz & Carrie are my girls.
I’ll have to watch The Thing sometime. Thanks
For the recommendation. I like Tarantino…my
